Appalachian Energy, Inc. (AEI) is a privately owned, independent producer of natural gas and coalbed methane (CBM) based in Abingdon, Virginia and is currently the fourth largest producer in Virginia.  AEI was founded in March 2002 with the acquisition of Virginia Gas Exploration Company (VGEC).  The acquired VGEC assets consisted of 84 wells (52 in Buchanan County, VA; 27 in Dickenson County, VA; 5 in McDowell County, WV) and associated leases and infrastructure in southwest Virginia.

Following the acquisition, AEI applied production enhancement techniques to improve existing wells, built pipeline and compression infrastructure, leased additional acreage and began drilling coalbed methane (CBM) wells in Buchanan County in 2005.  Since that time, AEI drilled 59 wells and participated as a Joint Venture Partner in an additional 39 Non-Operated wells.  AEI maintains strategic acreage and infrastructure to support future CBM drilling.

AEI has a limited group of working interest partners and currently is the Operator of 141 wells and the Non-Operator of 37 wells.  Operated production is 4.5+/-MMCFD and net operated production is 1.815+/-MMCFD.

FRANK D. HENDERSON

Mr. Henderson is the President/Owner of Appalachian Energy, Inc. (AEI) which is the fourth largest producer of natural gas and coalbed methane (CBM) in VA.  Founded in 2002, AEI purchased 84 wells and applied production enhancement techniques to improve existing wells. Beginning in 2004, AEI subsequently drilled 59 new CBM wells in Buchanan County, VA and participated as a JV partner in an additional 30 wells.  Since 2002, operated production increased over 300%.

Prior to forming Appalachian Energy, Inc., Mr. Henderson founded Appalachian Production Services, Inc. (APS) in 1994 to provide production management services for the natural gas and oil industry.  Since that time contract operating services expanded to over 2,500 wells, hundreds of miles of pipelines, maintenance and midstream assets in six states. In December 2016, Mr. Henderson merged APS with Basin Energy Group based in Charleston, WV.  The combined company acquired a welding/fabrication/maintenance service provider in November 2017, rebranded under the name ShalePro Energy Services and has grown to over 370 employees.  ShalePro is currently one of the largest Marcellus & Utica production and midstream service providers in the Appalachian Basin.

Before he found these companies, Mr. Henderson held various field and management positions with EQT, CNG Producing Company (Currently CNX Gas ), Union Drilling, Inc., PetroTech Inc. and the U.S. Geological Survey. His industry experience spans 38 years and includes production management, drilling and completion, pipeline, facility design/installation and geology.

Mr. Henderson is a 1981 Graduate of St. Lawrence University with Honors in Geology, is a past President and current Board Member of the Virginia Oil & Gas Association (VOGA), and is an active member in the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
